Artisans Hand is a distinguished gallery, exhibiting the best of Vermont’s traditional and contemporary crafts.
Artisans Hand was founded in 1978, when a group of visionary craftspeople opened a cooperative gallery on Langdon Street in Montpelier to sell their wares; the rest, as they say, is history. Today, the gallery is a nationally-recognized, award-winning gallery.
With over 140 exhibitors, the gallery features a dazzling array of beautiful, quality hand-crafted items, including jewelry, hand-painted silk scarves and other wearable fiber, household fiber, glass, wood, metal, pottery, stone, prints, and photography.
The gallery reflects the spirit of Vermont. Photography and prints feature iconic Vermont landscapes, flora and fauna. Lake Champlain beach stones are set into sterling silver jewelry. Bowls, cutting boards, and hand-carved birds are made from locally-sourced wood. Vermont fieldstones are transformed into owls, river goddesses and reflective water basins.
Artisans Hand is directed by a group of six artists: Jewelers Bill Butler, Steven Noyes and Lochlin Smith; fiber artist Maggie Neale; and ceramic artists Mary Stone and Leslie Koehler. Noyes and Butler are original founding members. Other well-known Vermont artists with work at the gallery include Sabra Field, Mary Azarian, Daryl Storrs, Dug Nap, and Robert Compton.
The gallery is a true feast for the senses – the most frequent comment from out-of-town visitors is “I wish there was a place like this where I live!”
